Join us for a food sovereignty workshop focused on winnowing Manoomin/Psin (Wild Rice) led by Derek Nicholas (Red Cliff Band of Ojibwe) of Wiisinig.
Participants will explore the rich history, value, and cultural teachings surrounding wild rice and its importance to Indigenous communities. In addition to learning about the significance of wild rice, participants will gain hands-on knowledge of traditional wild rice processing techniques, including parching, threshing, and winnowing.
The workshop takes place on October 29 from 3 pm - 5 pm at the Wakan Tipi Center.
This free/drop-in event is supported through a collaborative partnership between Wakan Tipi Awanyankapi and the Minnesota Historical Society. Light refreshments and program resource materials will be available.
