Details
Forty years ago this year, the seven men and one woman of the Steger International Polar Expedition set out by dogsled to reach the North Pole. It was the first successful, unsupported trek to the North Pole and one expedition member, Ann Bancroft, became the first woman to reach the North Pole on arrival. The expedition’s spectacular feat of daring, courage, and commitment was deemed by National Geographic to be a “landmark in polar exploration.”
Join expedition members—including its three Minnesotans—for a look back at this record-setting accomplishment and what it means forty years later. The program will include a meet-and-greet with expedition members from 5-6 PM followed by a moderated discussion and audience Q&A beginning at 6:30 PM.
