Join Subtext Books at The Minnesota Museum of American Art (350 Robert St N, St Paul, MN 55101) on October 30th from 6 -7 PM to celebrate the release of Nick of Time: Women Write about Art and Aging. Editors Julie Landsman, Debra J Stone and Morgan Grayce Willow will be speaking about Nick of Time, a bold, collective portrait of the sustaining force of art while aging.

Nick of Time celebrates the artistic community of the Twin Cities and the wisdom that comes with age. Bringing together the voices of women creatives over the age of sixty-five, this collection is as varied as the artists’ vocations, spanning from narrative prose to poetry, essay, monologue, letters, historical reflection, and more. As the contributors examine their lived experiences, hopes and regrets, joy and grief while traversing their last decades of life, they serve as a guiding beacon for others navigating the intersection of creativity and aging—as well as a ballast against its inevitable challenges. They write with refreshing honesty about feeling invisible in older age, receiving late recognition, or being dismissed as hair turns gray and wrinkles appear. Their openness provides strength and support for us all.

Julie Landsman is a writer, retired teacher, and painter. She has edited several anthologies of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry and is author of Basic Needs: A Year with Street Kids in a City School; A White Teacher Talks about Race; and Growing Up White: A Veteran Teacher Reflects on Racism.

Debra J Stone writes essays, poetry, and fiction. She received a 2023–25 Jerome Hill Artist Fellowship in Literature and the 2023 Loft Mirrors and Windows Fellowship for writing books for BIPOC children and young adults. She is author of The House on Rondo, also published by the University of Minnesota Press.

Morgan Grayce Willow is a writer and artist. Her work has appeared in many anthologies and journals, and she is author of several poetry collections and chapbooks, including Dodge & Scramble, Between, Silk, Oddly Enough, and The Maps Are Words. She serves as a teaching artist with The Loft Literary Center and the COMPAS Artful Aging program.

The Minnesota Museum of American Art (The M) is more than a museum, more than brick and mortar. Minnesota Museum of American Art is an inclusive community arts center for all who call the Twin Cities home. In addition to offering exhibitions and programs in the new museum facility, the museum partners with artists, schools, libraries, and cultural organizations around the state to bring the M into Minnesota communities. For an evening event there should be plenty of street parking at meters. The nearby First National ramp is connected to The M via skyway, as well as the Jackson ramp.
